Rogue Touch v1.61 Update is Live!

October 1st, 2012

The title says it all… For those who missed the previous post, a strange bug affected RT v1.6 when played on the newly released iOS 6. This prevented you from using the popup menu to descend the stairs, or any other actions that are triggered on those menus. Downloading this update will fix you right up, and speed up your gameplay experience a bit more too!

Note that v1.61 only supports back to iOS 4.3 now, instead of iOS 3.0. This is due to changes with Xcode that prevent me compiling for older targets. The next major upgrade of Rogue Touch will likely boost that requirement to iOS 5.

Feel free to provide me some feedback here, and update your iTunes reviews when you have a moment. Thanks for your support! 🙂

  1. As someone who played and loved the original back in the late 80s early 90s finding Rogue Touch a few months back was brilliant. I was overjoyed to be able to play Rogue touch again and am totally addicted (again)but after its recent “downtime” and v1.61update sadly my iphone4s with IOS6 now wont let me change Armour and when killed the title page crashes the game when I push “new game”. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next, hopefully very soon, update.

  2. Phil, this is interesting! I hadn’t experienced a crash with armor… But now that you mention it, all my playtesting with Rogue Touch for this update was using characters with nice armor already so I didn’t try to remove any. As for the crash at start-up: That can occur if the savegame gets corrupted for some reason. To test, please delete Rogue Touch and re-download it it from the App Store (for free since you already own it). That should clear up the bad savegame data.

I’ll investigate the wear/remove armor next, that’ll teach me to play only as secret characters too! 😛

As soon as I locate the issue, I’ll get another update loaded up and fired off!

  3. I am also a hopeless Rogue Touch addict. After many games I finally reached the Amulet last night (I have never played the secret characters) but on my way back up I died. Unfortunately the game did what it frequently does which is lock up on death. So my score was not uploaded or even recorded in the local Hall of Fame.

Is this a known issue? I installed the update.

  4. Hey Dinsdale! Glad to know you are still playing, after releasing v1.61 I was surprised to see a few thousand people install the update! So it seems there are a fair number of Rogue Touch players still out there playing… much more than I’d expected. Version 1.62 has been submitted to Apple early this past week, I expect it to go live the week of 10/8.

There are enough active players that I may alter my update/new version plans for Rogue Touch. Watch this space for more!

For your specific issue- A crash/lockup on death is not something I have seen reports of in iOS 6. I personally have died quite a number of times in playtesting these updates and it always went through fine all the way back to the title screen. Did you ever see anything after the fade to red? Music? What device and OS version are you playing on, and is it jailbroken? If I can get more detail maybe I can locate a reason why its happening to you upon death 🙂

  5. Looking around I see that my run actually was uploaded to the online leaderboard, but I have verified that it did not appear on my local Hall of Fame.

I am still using iOS 5 on an iPhone 4S (not jailbroken).

I have also started noticing crashes when I visit the RT main menu (after a game, mainly). It’s not a big deal because it still works when I launch the game again, but worth noting.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Rogue Touch since posting my previous comment, but it has still locked up once after death and crashed when visiting the main menu a number of times.

Something else weird I noticed just once since the patch (which is hard to describe and even hard to screenshot): I was standing by a long east/west wall in a large room and shooting arrows at a group of slimes quite a ways to the west. As I hit them (possibly as they divided and/or moved?) they would very briefly appear then disappear at the top of the screen. It looked like some kind of buffer-related issue.

Sorry for these poor descriptions. I wish there was a debug mode that I could run Rogue Touch in so I could provide crash reports or something.

  8. Yes, the corpse of previous adventurers can be problematic at times. I’m in the middle of an engine re-write that should fix a lot of this old stuff and provide a lot of new awesomeness. A merchant will be found in the “plus” version of Rogue Touch 😉
